Marilyn Pennington
Memorial services for Marilyn Pennington, former Lusk resident, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1992, at the Congregational Church in Lusk with Rev. Allen Kallenbach officiating.
She was born June 16, 1937, in Alden, Iowa, the daughter of Maynard and Estella Clark. She attended schools there and was active taking piano lessons and playing girl's half-court basketball. She graduated from Alden High School in 1955.
She attended Nurse's Training at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated as a registered nurse in 1958. She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1962. Her son Chris was born on Sept. 21, 1962.
She moved to Lusk in 1963 to be with her parents where she met James R. Pennington. They were married in Hot Springs, S.D., on June 15, 1963. She worked at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years.
During her life in Lusk, she did some home health nursing and was school nurse for eight years. She gave birth to Patricia Ann on Feb. 27, 1964, and Richard Michael on Aug. 21, 1969. While in Lusk, she was an active member in Eastern Star for more than 25 years. She belonged to the American Legion, the DOEs, Job's Daughters and the Congregational Church, singing in the choir and playing the organ.
In the fall of 1984, Jim, Marilyn and Mike moved to Page, Ariz., where she worked at the Page Hospital and was active in the Cancer Support Group. She continued to be active in eastern Star and in the Methodist Church again, singing in the choir and as organist.
She fought a long, hard fight against cancer for five and a half years and died at home, surrounded by family, on Nov. 26, 1992, at the age of 55.
She was a person who loved life and the people in it. She was a caretaker and friend. She had a love for music, sports, people and a good joke. She was also known for her good cooking. And even after death, has continued to give by donating her body to research.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Pennington of Page, Ariz.; her children; Chris King of Seattle, Wash.; Patty Wurzel of Powell, Wyo. and Michael Pennington of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Bette DeBates of Lusk; two brothers, Gary Clark of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. and Jim Clark of Casper, Wyo.; along with seven nieces and seven nephews, not to mention a grandchild along the way.
