Andrew "Andy" Lawrence Owens

Funeral for Andy Owens Held Sat.

Funeral services were held for A. L. "Andy" Owens, 75, Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the Peet Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Kellerman of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery with military rights conducted by the American Legion.

Mr. Owen died at the Veteran's Hospital in Cheyenne August 25. He had been in poor health for the past two years and a patient of the Veteran's Hospital for the past six months.

Mr. J. P. Watson was the organist. Bob and Bill Huey sang, "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages."

Pallbearers were Harry Baars, Howard Eikenberry, Martin Glandt, Bing Barr, Nick Kaan Sr. and Frank Christian.

Honorary pallbearers were Bunt Alter, Walt Tyrell, Rulo Roberts, Henry Klemke, Helmuth Klemke, Otto Duguid, Adam Rexius, O. P. Harnagel, Stanley Hoy, Menno Kaan, Floyd Simon, Roy McLain, Floyd McLain, Carl Brown, Del Alters and A. E. Tibbits.

Andrew Lawrence Owens was born in Crawford County, Iowa, October 22, 1888 the son of Volgard and Matilda Marie Owens. He spent the early part of his life in Iowa coming to Wyoming in 1910 and homesteaded south of Lusk. He enlisted in the armed forces July 6, 1918 and served with the third Cavalry, Troop B, in France during World War I. He was discharged from the service May 21, 1919 at Fort D. A. Russell, Wyo.

November 26, 1919 he and Miss Marie Louise Burger were married at Douglas. They ranched until 1945 when they moved to Lusk and operated the Sinclair Station for ten years.

"Andy" as he was widely known in the community, was a life time member of the Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Umphenour, Shelton, Wash., Mrs. Edna Blackmore, Lusk and Mrs. Virginia Fraser, Sundance; two sons, John L. Owens and Pete A. Owens, Casper; one sister Mrs. Elsie Ketelsen, Mapleton, Iowa; four brothers, Otto, Arcadia, Calif., Hugo, Mapleton, Iowa, Gus, Soldier, Iowa and Pete J Lusk; and 11 grandchildren..
