Donee Jean Freeman

Donee Jean Freeman 41, passed in her sleep August 9, 2001. She was born March 11, 1960 in Lusk, Wyo. to Donald E. and Thelma Kraft Freeman.

She lived in rural Niobrara County until age 6 when her father died from the complications of diabetes. After moving into Lusk, she attended school graduating with the class of 1979.

While in Torrington, Wyo., she attended Eastern Wyoming College and worked for the Torrington Hospital in the dietary department. She transferred to the Lusk Hospital to continue the work that had become her chosen career.

In 1990, D. J. (as she preferred to be called) joined the staff of Wyoming Child and Family Development at the Lusk Early Childhood Head Start program as cook and worked until February 1, 1999, when health problems made it impossible for her to continue. Diabetes had developed at age 10 and she fought the rest of her life through all of its many problems.

She was a member of the Lusk Congregational Church but after moving to Harrison, Neb., she was invited to join the Morning Circle of the Memorial United Methodist Church Women's Morning Circle, and served as treasurer. She enjoyed the Fellowship provided as she was not able to participate in many activities.

She enjoyed the companionship of her pets and found outlets in her love of cooking, by giving away much of what she made to family and friends. She also loved having her own home and wanted to remain independent.

She leaves her mother and her daughter April Nicole, who is a senior at Boys Town High School, as well as many cousins, aunts, and uncles, family and friends.

Church services were in Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison, Neb., and interment in the Lusk Cemetery in Lusk, Wyo. Rev. Henreitta Stemley officiated. Memorials may go to the Sioux County EMS and the Diabetes Foundation.
