Funeral Here Saturday for Henry Mashek

Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church here on Saturday for Henry Mashek, who died Tuesday, August 24th after a lingering illness. Rev. Glen Fry officiated at the services and the Wildy Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. Burial was at the Hemingford Cemetery.

Henry Mashek was born July 12, 1871 in Bohemia. He died at his home in Dawes County, Nebr. August 24, 1943.

When a child of six years he came with his parents to the United States, living several years at Albion, Nebr., later moving to Lusk, Wyo. where young Henry grew to manhood on a ranch in that country. On May 17, 1904, he married Mary Mracek at Hemingford, Nebr. The young couple made their home in Wyoming for three years then came to Dawes County, where they have since lived on a farm ten miles northwest of Marsland and here they raised their family. Five children, two daughters and three sons were born in this home. One daughter, Ellen passed away when but three years of age.

Surviving are the wife and a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Freimuth of Hemingford and three sons, James and Louie, in military training in Texas, and Frank living at home; also two grandchildren. The last of five brothers, Mr. Mashek leaves behind two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pfister of Lusk, Wyo., and Mrs. Barbara Ryder of Los Angles, Calif. A third sister has previously died.

Mr. Mashek was one of those hardy men of middle-Europe whose coming to America has left its indelible impression on our American way of life by their industry, thrift and sturdy character. The sorrow of his passing to his family is shared by many friends.
