Ethel Murphy
Ethel Murphy Dies in Calif.
Mrs. Ethel Murphy, 72, a resident of Lusk for many years, died at the White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., May 31 of cancer. Burial was in the Angelus Abbey Mausoleum in Compton, Calif.
Mrs. Murphy was born in Clintonville Wis. in 1888. She graduated from nursing training in 1905. She married Dr. G. D. Murphy in 1910 and they homesteaded in the Keeline vicinity, where he also practiced his profession. Moving into Keeline, Mrs. Murphy was postmistress while also operating a drug store with her husband and accompanying him on calls. They were the parents of four children. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the D.A.R., Order of Eastern Star and an ardent worker in the Episcopal Church.
Dr. and Mrs. Murphy moved to Long Beach, Calif. in 1945. After Dr. Murphy's death in 1951, Mrs. Murphy continued private nursing until ill health forced her to retire a few years ago. Late in the winter she fell breaking her shoulder in four places. An article about her accident appearing in the Herald brought cards to her from five states in one day. Bursitis prevented her from answering all the letters she received personally.
Survivors include her four children; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Innmon, Downey, Calif., and Mrs. Ruth Bartle, Casper; two sons, Guy Donald, Menlo Park, Calif. and John W. La Habre, Calif. and eight grandchildren.
