HOMESTEADED IN COUNTY 1917; WAS WELL KNOWN
Edward O. Morse, a resident of the Mule Creek community in the northern part of Niobrara county for many years, passed away on Thuraday, November 14th, at the home of his son, Newton Morse, at Midwest, Wyoming.
Mr. Morse came to Niobrara County in 1917 and homesteaded at Mule Creek on the land that is now known as the Argo Oil company. He farmed there until about six years ago when he retired, going to California for a year and later making his home with his son, Newton, where he passed away.
Edward Ogilvie Morse was born near York, Pennsylvania on February 6, 1863, and passed away at Midwest, Wyoming, November 14, 1940, aged 77 years, nine months and eight days. When a small lad he moved with his parents to Iowa where he grew to manhood in the vicinity of Sioux City. He made his home in that state until he moved to Wyoming in 1917, homesteading at Mule Creek.
On March 20, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Rebecca Bristow at Onawa, Iowa and seven children were born to bless this union, all of whom survive him. Mrs. Morse preceded her husband in death, passing away February 4, 1922. The children are: Mrs. Will Spencer of Spencer, Wyoming; Mrs. Mary E. Miller of Lusk; Mortimer O. Morse, of Los Angeles, Calif.; John J. Morse, of Detroit, Mich.; Newton B. Morse, of Midwest, Wyo.; Mrs. Harold Smith of Pavilion, Wyo., and Mrs. Helen Robel, whose address is unknown. There are also two adopted sons, Edward L. Morse and Leslie Elmer Morse of Lusk. There are 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, November 19, 1940 at Edgemont, South Dakota. Pallbearers were E. A. Sheaman, Harry Sheaman, Merle Davidson, Fred Robison, George Tupper and Harry Avanell, all neighbors of the deceased for many years in the Mule Creek vicinity. Burial was made beside his wife in the Edgemont cemetery.
