David "Dave" Arthur Mill

Last Rites Held Here For David A. Mill, Saturday; Had Succumbed to Heart Attack at Newport, Oregon

Concluding rites were held for the late David Arthur Mill, member of a prominent Niobrara County Pioneer family, on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 29th, from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home. Rev. Theodore Foster, pastor of St. Georges' Episcopal Church of Lusk officiated.

Enriching the services was the singing of "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again." by a mixed trio composed of Mrs. Walter Fernau, Mrs. Robt. Bramlet and Harry Lyon. Mrs. J. P. Watson accompanied them at the organ.

Interment was made in the family plot in the Lusk cemetery with Henry McGinnis, Robert Scott, William D. Miller, Roy Turnbull, Rulo Roberts and Bert Crinklaw bearing the remains to their final resting place. Honorary pallbearers were Hans Gautschi, Harry Boner, Barney Miller, Max Heth, Fred Bryant and Dudley Fields.

Graveside rites were held by members of Lusk Lodge No. 1797, B. P. O. Elks, for the Elks Lodge of Deadwood, So. Dak. of which the deceased was a member.

David Arthur Mill was born November 30th, 1890 at Fairbur, South Dak. a son of Jacob and Philipena Mill, and departed this life Sept. 22, 1956, at Newport, Oregon where he was spending a vacation trip and enjoying fishing. Death was due to a heart attack.

"Dave" as he was familiarly known to his friends came to Wyoming in 1891 with his parents who settled on a ranch at Hat Creek, Wyo. that is now owned by his brother, George Mill. It was here that he spent his boyhood days.

Dave was married September 24, 1914 to Flossa Cogeshall, at Omaha, Nebr. To this union was born one daughter, Lola, in October 1916, who passed away October 20, 1918.

Dave was engaged in ranching at Hat Creek until 1941, when they moved to Deadwood, So. Dak. where he was interested in mining. In the fall of 1980, Mr. and Mrs. Mill moved to Spearfish, So. Dak. where they purchased a western store.

Dave was a great lover of the outdoors and was an ardent sportsman. Among his many friends, a host of young people were privileged to call him "Dave" and he was never too busy to listen to their interests and problems.

He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church of Lusk, a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 508, at Deadwood, South Dakota, and the Wyoming Pioneer Association.

Survivors include his wife, Flossa, of Spearfish, So. Dak., two brothers, George Mill of Hat Creek, Wyo., and William J. (Bill) Mill of Phoenix, Ariz., two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Boyd and Mrs. Christina Strube of Lusk, and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

David Mill Dies of a Heart Attack In Oregon Sunday

David A. Mill, 65, of Spearfish, S. D. and former resident of Niobrara County, died Sunday from a heart attack while on a fishing trip to Newport, Oregon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet Chapel with Rev.Theodore Foster, pastor of St. George's Episcopal Church, officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Flossie, of Spearfish; two sisters, Mrs. Tena Strube and Mrs. S. W. Boyd of Lusk; and two brothers, Billy Mill of Phoenix, Ariz. and George Mill of Hat Creek.

Funeral Services For David Mill Held in Lusk Sat.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from Peet Chapel for David Arthur Mill, 65, of Spearfish, S.D. and former resident of Niobrara County. Rev. Theodore Foster, rector of St. George's Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery. B.P.O. Elks No. 1797 conducted graveside rites.

A mixed trio composed of Mrs. Robert Bramlet, Mrs. Walter Fernau and Harry Lyon sang "God be With You Till We Meet Again" and "Beautiful Isle." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Active casket bearers were Henry McGinnis, Rulo Roberts, Robert Scott, W. D. Miller, Barney Miller and Roy Turnbull. Honorary casket bearers were Harry Boner, Max Heth, Z. B. Crinklaw, Fred Bryant, Hans Gautschi and Dudley Fields.

Dave, as he was known to his friends, was the eldest son of Jacob and Philiphena Mill. He with his family moved to Wyoming in 1891 where he spent his boyhood days on a ranch at Hat Creek. He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church of Lusk, Elks Lodge No. 508 in Deadwood, S.D. and the Wyoming Pioneer Association.

On September 14, 1914 he married Flossa Cogeshell. They were the parents of one child who died in infancy.

He was engaged in ranching at Hat Creek until 1941 when he moved to Deadwood where he was interested in mining. In 1950 they purchased a Western store at Spearfish which they have continued to operate.

Dave was a great lover of the outdoors, being an avid sportsman. Fishing and hunting were his chief interest.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, William of Phoenix, Ariz. and George of Hat Creek and two sisters, Mrs. S. W. Boyd and Mrs. Christina Strube of Lusk and numerous other relatives. A daughter, Lola and his parents previously died.
