Mrs. Juliana Milek, Sister of Local Residents, Passes Away in Thermopolis Rites and Interment Tuesday, July 10th

Mrs. Juliana Milek, pioneer resident of the Thermopolis area, passed away Friday July 6th, at the Memorial hospital in Thermopolis, Wyo., following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held in St. Francis' Church of that city on Tuesday July 10th, with the Very Rev. Philip W. Krass as celebrant at a Solemn Requiem Mass. Interment was in the family cemetery near the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Justin McCarthy.

Mrs. Milek was born at Mount Carmel, Iowa, February 17, 1879, a daughter of Anton and Bernadine Bruch. She also lived in Nebraska and South Dakota before moving to Lusk, Wyoming, where the family took up homesteading in 1910.

On October 16, 1911, she was married to Henry J. Milek, and they moved to his homestead west of Thermopolis. The family remained in that vicinity since that time. Mr. Milek preceded her in death about six years ago.

Mrs. Milek was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and was active in the Altar and Rosary society and other activities of the church until her illness. She had served as organist at Elgin and Oakdale, Nebr., and later took an active interest in choir work at St. Francis' Church in Thermopolis.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Justin McCarthy, and one son, Cornelius Milek, both of Thermopolis; two sisters, Pauline and Elizabeth Bruch, Lusk Wyo.; three brothers, Carl Bruch, Lusk, Wyo., Henry Bruch, Sturgis, So. Dak., and Albert Bruch, Cheyenne, Wyo. and eight grandchildren.

Sister of Local People Dies at Thermopolis

Mrs. Julianna Milek, 77, of Thermopolis and sister of Elizabeth, Pauline, and Carl Bruch of the Node Community, died July 6 at the Memorial Hospital there following a lingering illness.

Solemn Requiem High mass was sung at the church of St. Francis in Thermopolis the following Monday morning. A rosary service was held in the chapel of the Mortimore Funeral Home Monday evening and burial was in the family plot at the Justin McCarthy ranch beside her husband, the late H. J. Milek.

Mrs. Milek was born at Mt. Carmel, Iowa February 17, 1879. She came to Hot springs county in 1911 and lived in Thermopolis for 45 years. She was a member of the Church of St. Francis.

Survivors include a son, Cornelius Milek; one daugher, Mrs. Justin McCarthy, both of Thermopolis; three brothers, Henry Bruch, Sturgis, S.D. Albert Bruch, Cheyenne; Carl Burch, Lusk; two sisters, Elizabeth Bruch, and Pauline Bruch, both of Lusk; and eight grandchildren.
