Mrs. Sam Joss of Manville Dies Lusk Hospital

Mrs. Clara May Joss, wife of Sam Joss of Manville, passed away at the Lusk Hospital, on Saturday, July 6th, after an illness lasting over a long period.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Lusk, the Rev. S. C. Cadle officiating, at the Baptist church, burial being made in the Lusk Cemetery, the Earl Peet Mortuary being in charge of the arrangements.

The death of Clara May Joss brought sorrow not only to the immediate relatives and friends, but to many residents of Manville, Lusk and the surrounding communities. For, although not old in years, Mrs. Joss had lived almost her entire life in Manville, and was known to almost everyone in this part of the county, and the number of her friends was evident by the large crowd which packed the street in front of the church, unable to gain admittance to the services.

The impressive funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cadle in the Baptist Church, in order to accommodate more friends who wished to pay their last respects to their life long friend and neighbor. The services at the grave were conducted by members of the Mariposa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Manville, of which chapter she was a member.

Clara May Hitshew was born near Cheyenne, Wyoming, December 26th, 1882, moving to Manville with her parents in 1886. She joined the Methodist Church when a young girl.

On May 5, 1901, she was united in marriage to Samuel Joss, and to this union three children were born, two sons, George and Arthur of Manville, and one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Kirk of Lance Creek.

Besides her husband and children she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mattie Hitshew of Manville; two brothers, Charles Hitshew of Lost Springs,and Oliver Hitshew of Manville, and three sisters, Mrs. Retta Woody of Glendo, Wyo., Mrs. Ethel Dern of Manville and Mrs. Hazel Osenbaugh of Shreveport, Louisiana.
