Mrs. Martin Dies In Lusk Sunday

Mrs. Walter S. Martin, 64 of Lusk died Sunday at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from Peet Chapel with Rev. Otha B. Holcomb, minister of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Otha Holcomb and Mrs. Carl Peterson sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Mrs. J.P. Watson was organist.

Casket bearers were Gaylord Anderson, John Jassman, C.E. Marvin, Pat Marchant, Ollie Seaman and Harry Zimmerman.

Sarah Ellen Martin was born March 8, 1893 at Greenfield, Iowa moving to Sioux County, Nebraska with her parents in 1904. She was married to Walter S. Martin at Harrison June 30, 1911. They made their home in the Kirtley community for many years, later moving to Lusk where they have since resided.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Grace Thomas, Harrison; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Courtney, Tingley, IA; three brothers, Frank Butler, St. Helena, Calif., Bud Butler, Tampa, Fla. and William Butler, Parma, Idaho. One son William previously died.

Concluding rites were held for Mrs. Sarah Ellen Martin, at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home. Mrs. Martin had passed away on Sunday December 9th from a lingering illness.

Rev. Otha Holcomb of the First Baptist Church of Lusk officiated at the rites. Two vocal selections, "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Safe In the Arms of Jesus, " were sung by Mesdames Carl Peterson and Otha Holcomb with Mrs. J. P. Watson accompanying at the organ.

Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery with Gaylord Anderson, John Jassman, C. E. Marvin, Pat Marchant, Olie Seaman and Harry Zimmerman acting as casketbearers.

Sarah Ellen Martin, known as Sadie, was born March 8th, 1893 to Edwin and Mary Butler at Greenfield, Iowa, and departed from this life at the Memorial hospital, Lusk, Wyo, December 9, 1956, having reached the age of 63 years, 9 months, and 1 day. She had enjoyed a life of good health until six months ago when her illness began, and the last five weeks of her life were spent in the Memorial hospital.

She moved to Sioux County, Nebr., with her parents in 1904.

On June 30, 1911, she was united in marriage to Walter S. Martin at Harrison, Nebr. They made their home in the Kirtley community for many years; later moving to Lusk, where they have since resided.

Into this family were born two children, one son and one daughter. Her son William preceded her in death in the year 1930.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Walter S. Martin, Lusk; her daughter, Mrs. Grace Thomas of Harrison, Nebr., one sister Mrs. Maggie Courtney, Tingley, Iowa; three brothers, Frank Butler, St. Helena, Calif., Bud Butler, Tampa, Florida; and William Butler of Parma, Idaho. Several nieces and nephews, and a very great host of friends mourn her departure from this life.
