Roy Maguire, Nio Rancher 40 Years, Dies

Funeral service was held last Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Rice Chapel in Brighton, Colo., for Roy James Maguire, 86, who died May 6 at the Valley View Hospital in Thornton, Colo., after a short illness. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton.
Mr. Maguire was born Feb. 8, 1887, the eldest son of James and Mary Maguire in Pawnee County, Neb. His youth was spent in the area of St. Mary, Kan. Mr. Maguire was a veteran of World War 1 serving in France. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge in 1908 and received his 50 year pin in 1958.
Roy Maguire and Fern Hodson were married May 31, 1922, in Valentine, Neb. He was a rancher in Niobrara County for 40 years moving to Colorado in 1956. He has been a resident of the Brighten area since 1963. Mrs. Maguire died in 1966.
Survivors include his children Ann Ellsworth, Casper, Alice Allison, Independence, Ore., Frank Maguire, Lusk, Mary McFarland, Henderson, Colo., Eunice Tanner, Carl Maguire and Hazel Smith all of Brighton; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alean Curtis and Belle Martin both of Topeka Kan.
