Neva Lenore Lamb

Funeral services for Neva Lenore Lamb, 91, of Lusk, were held Dec. 9, 2002, at the Cicmanec-Pier funeral home with Mark Lohr officiating. Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.

Neva Lamb died Dec. 6, 2002, at the Gordon County Side Care in Gordon, Neb.

Neva was born Feb. 27, 1911, in Amherst, Colo., to Walter Lee and Nina Belle Keister. As a young girl she lived in Jireh, Wyo., and graduated from Manville High School, as valedictorian of her class. She was a member of the girl's basketball team.

On May 18, 1929, she married Ira Lamb in Hot Springs, S. D. and they moved to the oilfields at Midwest, Wyo. They later homesteaded in the Rawhide Buttes area.

In 1935 they moved to Jay Em, where they ran a hardware store and soda fountain. Neva operated the hardware store while Ira established a propane gas business. The business expanded, and they formed the Wyoming Gas Corporation in 1939. They moved the business to Lusk in 1945, where it was closer to the oil supplies in Lance Creek.

Neva and Ira resided in Lusk; they sold the Wyoming Gas Company in 1959 but continued to operate the family ranch. They spent many winters in Arizona and made annual excursions for hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming.

Neva was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She enjoyed carpentering, gardening, horseback riding, sewing, fishing and in her later years enjoyed swimming with the local swimming groups.

Neva will be remembered by her family for her endless energy, impatience, work ethic, toughness and spiritual strength. She was always in a hurry and never learned to relax, except for occasional naps after lunch.

Many trips to town were interrupted or cut short because she forgot to turn off the iron or stove. Her hands were rarely idle. Neva would occasionally get tickled and laugh with such joy it would bring tears to her eyes.

She is survived by two daughters, Nina of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Lana of Gordon, Neb.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ira in March 1989. Memorials contributions may be made to the Church of Christ in Lusk, Wyoming.
