Norman V. Lamb

Norman V. Lamb, 83, died July 16, 1996, in Torrington. Services were Saturday, July 23, 1996, at Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with Helen Oates officiating. Burial was at the Manville cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. Memorials are to the National Kidney Foundation.

He was born May 11, 1913, in Karns, Neb. to E. D. and Harriet (Vargason) Lamb.

The family moved south of Manville and homesteaded in 1914. He received his education in Manville. The family moved to Grants Pass, Ore, in the 1930's. From there he went to Montana, where he herded sheep and then returned to Manville. On Aug. 30, 1933, he married Margaret Rathbun and they ranched south of Manville.

They moved to Shawnee in 1940, where he operated a coal mine until the fall of 1942 at which time they purchased the Chris Larsen place east of Manville. He started ranching and building dikes which eventually grew into the road construction business. They moved to Torrington in 1970, making that their permanent home. He resided there until he died. He owned and operated Lamb Construction until 1987 when he formally retired from the construction business, enjoying winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Lamb was a lifetime member of the Wyoming Contractors Association, serving on the board of directors for seven years and one term as president. He also represented Wyoming for three years on the National Board of Associated General Contractors. He served on the Manville School Board for several years.

He spent his life ranching and in the construction business and enjoyed the many friends he made there. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him.

Survivors include his wife of Torrington; sons Jack and Gary of Lusk, Jerry of Torrington and Larry of Jackson; daughters Bobetta Etchemendy of Lost Springs and Bonnie King of Lead, S.D.; sisters Vernal Fosher of Lusk, Evona Holloway of Crescent City, Calif., and Neva Chipley of Mesa, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
