Death Claims Mrs. Stanley R. Kuns Friday; Last Rites Conducted Monday; Interment Made in Lusk Cemetery

Lusk and Lance Creek communities were saddened last Friday morning as word passed from friend to friend telling of the sudden and untimely death of Mrs. Maxine E. Kuns, wife of Stanley R. Kuns of Lance Creek. Mrs. Kuns passed away at the Spencer Hospital at 4:20 a.m., Friday, March 11th, after giving birth to a son, Kevin Stanley, at 2:40 a.m. The infant is reported to be getting along splendidly.

Concluding services were conducted for the late Mrs. Maxine E. Kuns at two o'clock Monday afternoon from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home. Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Lusk, assisted by Rev. Robert Orr McCaslin, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Torrington, Wyo., officiated.

A male quartette composed of Rex Yocum, James Willson, Gerald and Dale M. Bardo, sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Beautiful Isle," with Mrs. Gerald Bardo presiding at the organ.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery with Albert Edwards, Dr. Philip Hall, George Leece, Adolph Hennebeck, Boyd Anderson and Walter C. Fernau bearing the remains to their last resting place.

Maxine Erma Kuns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Scofield of Casper, Wyoming, was born July 2, 1931 at Kanorado, Kansas and departed from this life at 4:20 a.m., Friday, March 11, 1955 at the Spencer Hospital. She was 23 years, eight months and nine days of age.

She attended public school at Kanorado, Kansas until her parents moved to Hayward, Calif., where she completed her high school education and was graduated in June 1949. Following her graduation from school, she came to Torrington, Wyo., where she was employed as an operator of the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph exchange there.

On May 19, 1950 she was united in marriage to Stanley Roy Kuns, of Lusk, in the Presbyterian Church of Torrington, Wyo. They became the parents of two children, Janet Marcene and Kevin Stanley.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kuns made their home in Torrington until early in 1951, when they moved to Lance Creek, Wyo., and shortly thereafter, Stanley was called into military service. Mrs. Kuns returned to Torrington and made her home with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Goatley. During her husband's absence she resumed her position as a telephone operator. She attended the Presbyterian Church in Torrington.

Upon Stanley's discharge from military service, Mr. and Mrs. Kuns and small daughter, Janet, moved to Lance Creek where they had since made their home. Maxine will be remembered by all who knew her as a wonderful young woman, a devoted wife and mother, unselfish and always considerate of others.

Besides her husband, Stanley Kuns, and two small children, she leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Mrs. Ray Scofield of Casper, Wyo.; a twin sister, Mrs. Marcene Ray, Newcastle, Wyo.; a half-sister, Connie Scofield, Casper, Wyo.; three brothers, Maurice James, Lance Creek, Wyo.; Melvin James, Linch, Wyo., and Micky James, Lusk, Wyo., and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Lowell James, who passed away in 1936.

Mrs. Stanley Kuns Dies Suddenly Fri.; Service Held Mon.

Mrs. Stanley Kuns, 23, died suddenly and unexpectedly early Friday morning at he Spencer Hospital following the birth of a son. The baby is in good health.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock in the Peet Chapel. Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Lusk Congregational Church, assisted by Rev. Robert Orr McCaslin, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Torrington, officiated.

A male quartet including Rex Yocum, Gerald Bardo, Dale M. Bardo, and James Willson, sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Bardo, organist.

The casket-bearers were Dr. Philip Hall, A. Hennebeck, Albert Edwards, George Leece, Boyd Anderson, and Walter Fernau. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery with the Peet Mortuary in charge.

Maxine Erma Kuns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schofield, was born July 2, 1931 at Kanorado, Kan. and attended public schools there. With her parents she moved to Hayward, Calif., and graduated from the Hayward High School in June 1949.

It was in this same year that she moved to Torrington and worked as a telephone operator. Here she met and married Stanley Roy Kuns May 19, 1950. The couple have two children, Janet Marcene, 2, and the infant, Kevin Stanley.

In 1951 the family moved to Lance Creek and soon afterwards Mr. Kuns was called into service for two and a half years. Mrs. Kuns returned to Torrington and was employed again as a telephone operator. She lived with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Goatley, and attended the Presbyterian Church in that city.

Besides her husband and two children, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ray Schofield; her twin sister, Mrs. Keith Ray of Newcastle, and another sister, Connie Schofield of Casper; three brothers; Marurice James of Lance Creek, Melvin James of Linch and Micky James of Lusk. Her father previously died.

Goatley and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Christiansen of Torrington; Mr. and Mrs. Melvyn James of Linch; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schofield and Connie Casper; Mr. and Mrs. Jay Dorothy of Midwest; Mr. and Mrs. Curtis James, Mrs. Bessie Myer, Mr. and Mrs. Chester James, Mrs. Wayne Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Earl James and Mrs. Roy Johnson, all of Kanorado, Kan.
