Ralph Edward Jordan

Ralph Edward Jordan, 79, of Cheyenne died Sept. 14, 1996 at his home. Graveside services were Wednesday, Sept.18, 1986, in Lusk. Military honors were provided by the American Legion. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at Calvary Baptist Church in Cheyenne, where he was a member for 34 years.

He was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Gretna, Neb. to Mabel Matilda Clifton and Samuel Edward Jordan. The family later homesteaded north of Lusk. He continued to live in the Lusk and Manville areas before moving to Cheyenne in 1962. He retired from Laramie County School District Number One in 1978.

He married Rozettie C. Packard Nov. 19, 1941, in Harrison. He entered the Army June 24, 1943, at Fort Logan, Colo. He served in the European Theater during World War II. He received the Bronze Star for his participation in the first wave of the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He was also a German prisoner of war for one year following the invasion.

Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Trudy Jordan, and James and Patricia Jordan all of Cheyenne; sisters Mabel Jespersen and Ruby Morriss of Hemingford, Neb.; brothers Russell Jordan of Omaha, Neb. and Leonard Jordan of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Tami Jordan of Jackson, Traci Valentine of Thornton, Colo.; Tina Horton and Thomas Jordan of Cheyenne; great granddaughters Kayli Jordan and Samantha Jordan; step-great grandsons Luke and Ethan Horton, all of Cheyenne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glen Jordan.
