Reuben Johnson, 54-yr. Resident, Dies Last Wed.

Reuben A. Johnson, 76, a Niobrara resident since 1917, died from a heart attack on his birthday, January 6, at the Memorial Hospital in Atkinson, Neb. he had been in Atkinson visiting two of his sisters and other relatives and had a heart attack.

Funeral services were held in Lusk Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet Mortuary, with the Rev. Frank Bozart of Edgerton, Wyo. officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Gerald Hicks and Mrs. Jack Hammond as they sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Casket bearers were Dale Gunn, Sven Johnson, Jim Potter, Ray Taylor, Dick Ladwig and Harry Brown.

Honorary bearers were Luther Penfield, Sr., Alex Gunn, Joe Vaughan, Charles Vaughan, Melvin Miller, Joe Traphagan, Art Orr, Merle Oehlert, Ed Plum, Floyd McCleery, Floyd Wilkinson, Ray Pearce and Ray Baughn.

Mr. Johnson was born January 6, 1895, at Wahoo, Saunders County, Neb., to Richmond and Varinna Radcliff Johnson. When a small boy the family moved to Newport, Neb. where he attended school and grew to manhood. November 29, 1916, he married Mabel R. Carlisle at Stuart, Neb. In 1917 he filed on a homestead at Lance Creek and moved his family to this homestead in 1919, where he was still active in ranching at the time of his death. His wife, Mabel died in 1962.

January 15, 1967 he married Frankie Frost at Broken Bow, Neb., and since that time they have made their home in Lusk.

His parents, wife Mabel, seven brothers, one sister, one daughter, one grandson and three great-grandchildren died previously.

Survivors include his widow Frankie, three sons, Wayne of Guernsey, Wyo., Robert of Sheridan, Wyo., Don of Lance Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Florence Lancster, Lingle, Wyo., Mrs. Maxine Miller, Manville; three sisters. Mrs. Nellie Brewer, Ainsworth, Neb., Mrs. Serena Slaymaker, Atkinson, Neb., Mrs. Roy Eaton, Casper; 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four step-children and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial to the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital for heart equipment has been established.
