Ray A. Jenkins

Ray A. Jenkins, a long time Niobrara County resident and homesteader, died at his Lusk home Nov. 28.

Ray Jenkins was born July 25, 1896, at Lexington, Ill., the son of Frank and Fannie Jenkins. At an early age the family moved to Worthington, Minn. He was a member of the National Guard and served in the U.S. Army during the First World War As a young man he worked with livestock in Minnesota. He was married on June 18, 1919, to Alice Ling in Worthington and shortly after they moved to Wyoming. He continued working on ranches until 1922 when he homesteaded 640 acres about 40 miles north of Lusk. They lived on this ranch until after the death of his wife in March of 1940. Mr. Jenkins then moved to Lusk where he has resided since.

He is survived by 4 children, Donald Alan of Lewiston, Ida., Robert Ray of Bend, Ore., Mary Ellen of Smith River, Calif. and Ramon Alfred of Lusk; two sisters, Myrtle of ElCajon, Calif., Emma of Lakefield, Minn.; two brothers Orrie of Foster, Ore., and Clarence of Worthington, Minn. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice; three sisters, Mable and twins Alice and Edith, and four brothers, Roy, Roise, Len, and Russell.

Funeral service was held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with Mark Lohr Officiating. Organist was Mrs. Edna DeCastro who accompanied Tim Johnson as he sang, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Nearer My God To Thee." Burial was at Round Lake Cemetery, Round Lake, Minn., with graveside service at 2:00 p.m. Dec. 6.
