W. H. Hoy Died Thursday Evening in Hospital at Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Concluding Services Monday, Sept. 24

Waldo H. Hoy, prominent rancher of the Rawhide community passed away at 7 o'clock this (Thursday) evening in the Scottsbluff General Hospital in Scottsbluff, Nebr. Members of the family stated that the deceased had been in poor health for the past five years, caused by a heart condition.

Mr. Hoy became ill about midnight Wednesday at the family home, and his wife, and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Simenson of Fargo, No. Dak. who were visiting at the Hoy home, rushed him to Scottsbluff. As his condition became steadily worse during the day other members of the family arrived in Scottsbluff to be at his bedside.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon, Sept. 24th from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home.

Waldo H. Hoy, the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Hoy, was born July 14, 1888 at LaDell, South Dakota and departed this life Thursday, September 20th at Scottsbluff, Nebr. at the age of 68 years, two months, and six days.

He grew to young manhood in South Dakota and on February 22, 1911 he was united in marriage to Grace Waddell in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Eleven children were born to this union.

They made their home in South Dakota until 1916, when they moved to Wyoming and lived on a homestead in the vicinity of the Rawhide Buttes, south of Lusk, where Mr. Hoy engaged in ranching and farming. During the years, they enlarged and improved their holdings and have continuously made their home there.

Survivors include his wife, Grace of Lusk; four daughters, Mrs. Wyoma Cole of Visalia, Calif., Mrs. Alyce Norman of this city; Mrs. Anita Simeson of Fargo, No. Dak.; Mrs. Lola Darnell of Gillette, Wyo.; six sons, Maynard of Worland, Wyo.; Harold , address unknown; Albert, Richard and Dale, all of Lusk; and Wayne of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sixteen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Dora Spiegle, of LaJunta, Colo.; and a brother James Stanley Hoy of Lusk.

One son, Pfc. Lester Hoy who was killed while serving his country in 1945, preceded him in death.

Concluding Services Held for Waldo H. Hoy, Monday, from Peet Chapel; Burial is Made in Lusk Cemetery

Concluding services were held for the late Waldo Harley Hoy, well known rancher of Niobrara County, at 2 p.m., Monday, September 24th, from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home with Rev. Otha B. Holcomb of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

During the rites, a male quartet composed of Gerry Bardo, Dale Bardo, Dan Christian and Howard DeCastro sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied on the organ by Mrs. J. P. Watson.

The remains were laid at rest in the family plot in the Lusk cemetery with Howard Eikenberry, Harry Fernau, Sr., Mahlon Peterson, C. E. Marvin, Floyd Simon, Emerson Bonner, Harold Scriven and Bing Barr serving as casketbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bunt Alter, Fred Eikenberry, Martin Brozovich, William Jobe, Glenn Darnall, W. S. Tyrrell, C. J. Stafford, Willis Morgan and Carl Brown.

Father of 11 children, Mr. Hoy's interest in children extended far beyond his own family. He worked with 4-H clubs for 25 years and was a leader for five. He served on the District No. 6 school board of Goshen county a number of years and for many other years drove the school bus. When track meets held among the rural schools of that area he did the coaching. At athletic games and many other ways he showed his interest and seemed to consider every child his friend.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoy homesteaded the home ranch in 1916 where he farmed and raised cattle. The development of fine registered Hereford herd was the outgrowth of 4-H projects of his children.

Mr. Hoy was born July 14th, 1888 at LaDell, South Dakota the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Hoy. The family moved to Arkansas for a time but returned to South Dakota. February 22, 1911, he married Grace Waddell at South Sioux City, Neb. They lived at Dakota City, Nebr., and at Springtown, Ark., before moving to Wyoming. He was a member of First Methodist Church at South Sioux City, and never took his membership from there, though he attended and his family became associated with First Baptist Church of Lusk.

Beside his wife, six sons and four daughters are living, all but one being home for the funeral services. Another son was killed in action during World War II. The children are: Maynard, of Worland, Wyo.; Harold, present address unknown; Mrs. Frank (Wyoma) Cole, Visalia, Calif.; Mrs. Alyce Norman, Lusk, Wyo.; Albert, Lusk Wyo.; Mrs. Clayton (Oneita) Simenson, Fargo, No. Dak.; Lester, killed in Germany, 1945; Mrs. Lloyd (Lola) Darnall, Gillette, Wyo.; Richard, Lance Creek, Wyo.; Wayne, Cheyenne, Wyo.; Dale of Lusk, Wyo.; a nephew that resided at the Hoy home, Dale Herfel. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. James Spiegle of LaJunta, Colo.; and one brother, James Stanley Hoy, Lusk; 16 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. James Spiegel, LaJunta, Colo., and one brother, James Stanley Hoy, Lusk. There are 16 grandchildren besides a number of nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from Peet chapel with Rev. Otha Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

Active casket bearers were Howard Eikenberry, Floyd Simon, Harold Scriven, Mahlon Peterson, Bing Baar, Harry Fernau, Sr., C. E. Marvin and Emerson Boner.

Honorary casketbearers were Bunt Alter, Martin Brozovich, Fred Eikenberry, William Jobe, Glenn Darnall, W. S. Tyrrel, C.J. Stafford, Willis Morgan, Carl Brown and Orval Allen.

A male quartet composed of Howard DeCastro, Dan Christian, Dale M. Bardo and Gerald Bardo, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus". Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Others here for the services, besides those mentioned were: Mrs. Dale Herfel, Bert Waddell, Manhattan, Kan.; Mrs. Manuel Aemarel, Visalia, Calif; Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Jobe, Torrington; and Mrs. Russell Henderson, Denver.
