John Hoffman, Early Rancher, Dies at Casper

John Hoffman, 74, rancher in the Hat Creek community for many years, died early Friday at the home of his son Donald in Casper. He had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services were conducted at the Peet Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Walter Bryen, pastor of the Edgerton Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro sang "Rock of Ages" and "Beyond the Sunset". Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist. Pallbearers were Darryl Brenner, James Meng, Leonard DeGering, Richard David, Robert Scott Sr., and Horace Graham. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Hoffman was reared in Western Nebraska in the Story community of Sioux County and later homesteaded in south Sioux County. After his marriage in 1917, he and his wife, Edna, moved to the Hat Creek vicinity of Niobrara County where they established a ranch and reared their family. Mrs. Hoffman died in 1937, but he continued with his ranching activities until he retired and moved to Casper four years ago to make his home with his son.

In addition to his son Donald, he is survived by a son, Lester of Edgerton; a daughter, Mrs. Eileen Brus of Lewistown, Mont.; three sisters; a brother; and four grandchildren.
