Graveside memorial services for Goldie Overman, 99, will be held at 11 a.m. at Valley View Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 19, with Rev. Don Schlichting officiating.

Goldie died at Goshen Care Center on Aug. 12.

She was born Aug. 12, 1907, in Nodaway County, Missouri, the daughter of Vollie and Etta (Obanion) Force. She was raised on a Missouri farm and helped he father farm until marrying Harvey Overman on May 10, 1926, in Albany, Mo. Goldie and Harvey farmed in Missouri for several years before moving to Lance Creek, where they worked for the Hogan Oshea Ranch (now the Clayton Dickson Ranch) and later proving up on the Dale Kobbe Homestead. She worked alongside her husband, building 100 miles of fence and putting in cattle guards. After moving into Lance Creek, she drove a school bus and took in laundry. The couple had five children. Goldie later relocated to Torrington in 1943 and raised her children, working at Sishc's building beet-toppers and working as a waitress in many local cafes. She loved her family and often traveled to see them. She was able to remain in her own home until age 97, when she became a resident of Goshen Care Center.

Goldie is survived by three daughters, Frances Dodson and Vergie Overman of Torrington and Marlyn Joann Adkins of Sutherland, Neb.; one son, Harvey Overman and his wife Cretcia of Arvada; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Floyd and Vinson; a daughter, Norma Jean; and grandson, David Hale.

Memorials may be directed to either Lifeline at Community Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.
