Mrs. Ona Higgins Area Resident Since 1924 Dies
Funeral service for Mrs. John (Ona Cora) Higgins, 84, was held December 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Peet Chapel. Mrs. Higgins died December 28 at Denver, Colo.
The Rev. Fred Bolinger conducted the service and Mrs. Judson Watson was the organist. Mrs. Betty Morgan and Mrs. Mary Germann sang "Rock of Ages".
Casket bearers were Martin Glandt, Roscoe Kilmer, John Thon, C. E. Marvin, Paul Morgan and Gaylord Anderson. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
Ona Cora Lowey was born Feb. 19, 1889, at Chillicothe, Livingston County, Mo., to Sarah Ellen Bowen and Gabriel Lowey. She grew to young womanhood in Missouri and June 12, 1909, married John Wesley Higgins at Chillicothe. They were the parents of a son, Milton.
In 1924 the family moved to Wyoming and purchased the Harry Hargraves ranch, four miles southwest of Lusk which they operated as a dairy farm until November 1943 when they moved to Lusk.
They purchased and operated the Royal Apartments and Higgins Apartments. Her husband died in February, 1946.
She was a member of the Baptist Church of Lusk.
Survivors include her son, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband and brother, Jerry Lowey died previously.
