Mrs. Jennie Held, 75, a former businesswoman of Lusk, died last Thursday at a nursing home in Cheyenne following a long illness. Funeral services were held at the Peet Mortuary in Lusk, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
The Rev. Fred Bolinger of the First Baptist Church of Lusk officiated. Mrs. Gerald Bardo was organist and accompanied Miss Carol Taylor, Mrs. Merle Hahn, Gerald Bardo and Dale M. Bardo as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross."
Casket bearers were John D. Gard, Charles Gard Jr., Phillip Gard, George A. Lee, Thomas Rasmussen and Alfred Taylor. Honorary bearers were Roy McLain, John Lorenzen, Glen Willson, J. P. Watson and Charles Lee.
Jennie May Carlson was born February 7, 1893, in Bordeaux, Nebr., the fourth child of Karl and Anna Carlson. Her parents were among the many Scandinavian immigrants coming to the United States in the 19th Century.
Her parents settled on a small farm in Antelope County near Neligh, Nebr. Her early education was received in a country school. She graduated with a R. N. degree from the Episcopal Hospital at Norfolk, Nebr., where she later nursed in a supervisory capacity.
In the early 1920's she moved to Douglas, Wyo., and worked in the Douglas Hospital until 1925.
She married George J. Held, May 28, 1925, in the old 3rd Street Episcopal Church of Lusk. They were the parents of two daughters, Mary Lee and Carol Jean. Mr. and Mrs. Held operated the Hiway Garage until Mr. Held's death in 1934. With characteristic faith and courage she took up the task of raising her two daughters as well as running the business and participating in the business activities of the community.
Mrs. Held was a devoted and hard working member of the Lusk Congregational Church, a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of P.E.O. Although her contributions to the community of Lusk cannot be denied, her first love was always nursing, to which the many friends who experienced her loving care would testify.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Charles V. Lee, Jr. of Ventura, Calif., and Mrs. Edgar A. Chenoweth of Laramie; two sisters, Mrs. Charles E. Gard of Lander and Mrs. Dean B. Leach of San Diego, Calif.; six grandchildren, Melanie, Jennifer and Charlotte Lee of Ventura and Karen, Linda and Janet Chenoweth of Laramie.
Her husband, George B. Held, one brother, Carl Carlson and a sister, Mrs. Robert Taylor of Lusk, died previously.
