13-Year Old Carol Ann Ferris Dies Suddenly Thurs.; Polio Thought Cause

Carol Ann Ferris, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ferris of Manville, died suddenly early last Thursday morning. The exact cause of death has not been given, but her physician, Dr. Walter E. Reckling, said that "it more closely resembled polio than anything else" and that if it were polio "then the type was an unusually quick acting virus." Tissues was sent to a Denver pathologist. He has not completed a diagnosis but is still making tests.

A second child, Robert, 10, was also taken ill Friday with what is feared to be polio. He is now confined to the hospital and is believed to be making satisfactory progress, but is being closely watched.

Carol had attended school Tuesday but was feeling ill Wednesday and missed the first day of school she had missed this year. She became very ill late Wednesday night and was rushed to the hospital but died enroute. She had not been inoculated with polio vaccine.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p. m. from Peet Chapel with Rev. Jacob Nein officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

A quartet composed of the Misses Dixie Foley, Bari Lee Kraft, Bonnie McKelvey and Alberta Fietz sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus:" and "In the Garden." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Casket bearers were Keith Kaper, Bob Eutsler, Wilbur Quick, Merlin Frye, Paul Parmely and Bob Gladson.

Carol Ann Ferris was born Nov. 23, 1943 at Lusk. She lived her entire life in Manville. She was an active member of the Cloverleaf 4-H Club. She was active in the Manville Community Church and a member of theYoung Peoples group. She was in the eighth grade.
