John Everett Goddard

Services were held Friday, November 13, 1987 at Peet Mortuary for John Everett Goddard. John, 76, a life-time rancher of Niobrara County died November 10, 1987 at Niobrara Memorial Hospital of Leukemia. Rev. Jess Reeves officiated. Dorothy and Delbert Dick provided the music. Active bearers were Danny Hanson, Lee Hales, Edmond Cook, Jack Anderson, Milton Himes and Roger Scott. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

John was born August 6, 1911, to Daniel E. and Blanche E. (Green) Goddard. He made his home on the original homestead in the Hat Creek area which is currently part of the ranch. It was first homesteaded by his father, Daniel E. Goddard in 1909.

John served in World War II from March of 1942 until his honorable discharge in October 1945, serving as a mechanic in the supply line in Iran all four years.

On December 23, 1949, he married Evelyn Heth. John served as a Niobrara County Commissioner and on the Welfare Board for 16 years. He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Farm Bureau, American Legion, V.F.W., and the Elk's Lodge. He also served on the Library, Senior Citizens, and A.S.C.S. boards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, an infant daughter, and a step-brother.

Survivors include his wife; Evelyn, of Lusk; one son, Daniel A. of Lusk; one daughter, Maxine L. Mitchell of Torrington, a nephew, Loren Heth of Laramie, and four grandchildren.

Memorials to either the Niobrara Memorial Hospital or to the Senior Citizen's Center would be appreciated by the family,
