Clark Gilchrist Killed In Highway Crash Tues.

Clark Gilchrist, 49, son of Mrs. Grace Gilchrist of Lusk, was killed instantly when the 1952 Studebaker he was driving left Highway 20 just over the Nebraska side of the Wyoming-Nebraska state line early Tuesday morning.

The eastbound car rolled end over end and then came to rest on its side just 400 feet inside the Nebraska line. The car, which Mr. Gilchrist had purchased in Hot Springs Monday, was a total loss. The impact of the crash was so severe that a portion of the crank shaft was torn from the car.

It was sometime after the crash that the accident was discovered. When the car was found the skid marks on the Highway were covered with snow.

Evidently the car left Highway 20 about 100 feet inside Nebraska. The Nebraska Safety patrol investigated the accident.

Funeral services will be held at the Peet Chapel at 10:00 a.m. today with the Rev James Davis in charge. Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. Lyle Eddy will sing "Old Rugged Cross and "Beautiful Isle" with Mrs. J. P. Watson as organist. Pallbearers are: Wm Wheelock, Earl Quigly, Harry Fernau, Jr. C. E. Marvin, Clyde Blackmore and Roy Quigley. Burial will be in the Lusk Cemetery.

Clark Erwin Gilchrist, son of Earl and Grace Trimble Gilchrist, was born in Isobel, S. Dak., November 5, 1911. The family came to Lusk in 1938. Mr. Gilchrist served in the U. S. Army during the second World War, spending two years in Burma and India. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Grace Gilchrist. His father died in 1943.

Funeral services for Clark E. Gilchrist, who was killed in an automobile accident 20 miles east of Lusk March 28, were held from the Peet Chapel last Thursday with the Rev. James E. Davis, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Lusk officiating.

Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. Lyle Eddy sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle," with Mrs. J. P. Watson as organist. Pallbearers were: Wm. Wheelock, Earl Quigley, Harry Fernau, Jr., C. E. Marvin, Clyde Blackmore and Roy Quigley. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Clark Erwin Gilchrist was born at Isabel, So. Dak., Nov. 5, 1911, the son of Earl and Grace Gilchrist. He attended school in that area and later moved to Lusk with his family.

He enlisted in the Army in June 1943 and served almost three years, two of which were in the China-Burma-India theater. He was honorably discharged in March 1946. Since that time he has lived in the Lusk vicinity. He was primarily engaged in trucking although he also did other lines of work.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and his father. Survivors include his mother of Lusk, an aunt, Mrs. Vera Johnson of Reno, Nev., an uncle and aunt in Oregon, an aunt, Mrs. Charlotte Craven of Kadoka, S. Dak. and several cousins.
