George Henry Giinther
Former Lusk merchant George Henry Giinther died Aug. 26, 1985, at Memorial Hospital of Natrona County in Casper. He was 92.
Mr. Giinther was born Sept. 11, 1892, in Lusk. He was reared and educated in Lusk. His father died when he was 10. He was raised by an uncle after the death of his mother when he was 16. He homesteaded on a ranch three miles northwest of Lusk and in 1918 built the Giinther Hardware Company. The building was torn down in 1974.
Mr. Giinther moved to Casper in 1928. He was employed by the Wyoming Automotive Company. He was the automotive department purchasing agent for Casper Supply Company's eight stores in Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota when he retired in 1960. After his retirement, he was assessor for the city of Casper.
He served as assistant chief clerk of the House of Representatives during the 1925 Wyoming Legislative session.
He was a member of the Natrona County School Board in 1944, 1945 and 1946. He was a charter member of the Lusk Lions Club and later a member of the Casper club. He was active as a Boy Scout leader in the 1930's and was a Past Master of the Lusk Masons. He was secretary from 1957 to 1978 of Natrona Lodge No. 15 AF&AM. He was also a member of the Korein Temple of the Shrine at Rawlins, the Wyoming Consistory and St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
He married Lenora Ray Oct. 21, 1915, at St. George's Episcopal Church in Douglas.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret J. Giinther of Casper and Betty Blunk of Aurora, Colo.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1967; a son, Glen, in 1949; and two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning, Aug. 29, at Bustard Funeral Home in Casper. Lodge services were conducted by Casper Lodge No. 15 AF&AM. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Crippled Children's Hospital or the Blue Envelope Hospice Program would be equally appreciated by the family.
