Eugene "Gene" Henry Perry

Eugene "Gene" Perry, 76, of Lusk, passed away Monday Nov. 14 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. A memorial service for Eugene Henry Perry was held on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Lusk. Inurnment followed at the Lusk Cemetery with military honors.

Gene was born on March 19, 1929, in Meridian, Idaho, to Henry and Myrtle Perry and was raised in the Kuna, Idaho, area. When he was 16, Gene joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Okinawa toward the end of World War II and in China following the war. His sister, Flora, and her husband moved to Lusk and Gene came to join them after his discharge where he met and married Evelyn Tibbits. Gene was subsequently recalled to active service in the Marines during the Korean conflict and served in Korea, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with Valor. Gene returned to Lusk where he and Evelyn raised their four children while he worked as a lineman for the Niobrara Electric Association for 10 years. He later became Chief of Police for the City of Lusk and subsequently served as City Manager for several years. Gene and Evelyn also owned and operated the Phillips 66 Distributorship for several years. In 1970, Gene and Evelyn purchased the Townhouse Motel in Lusk and Gene also started Perry's Trucking, which he operated until he retired.

Gene was an avid hunter, boater and water skier in past years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lusk and was actively involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts. For the past 10 years, he has served as Commander of VFW Post 3511 and was District 3 Post District Commander from 2003-2005. He was Post Commander of the All-American Team for 1997-1998. He was actively involved in American Legion Post 1, and has been Commander for the past two years. As All-American Team Post Commander, he received the honor of being a delegate to the national VFW convention in San Antonio, Texas. In 1998, he was appointed Buddy Poppy Chairman and received a trip to Washington D.C. representing members of the Wyoming Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Perry, of Lusk, sons Michael Perry of Houston, Texas, Gary Perry of Casper, Gene Perry II of Tacoma, Wash., daughter Sharon Skiver of Thermopolis, sisters Flora Holm and Faye Perry of Douglas and Fern Franssen of Nampa, Idaho, and granddaughter Rachelle Perry of Tucson, Ariz.

A memorial has been established to the V.F.W. Post #3511 or the First Baptist Church in Lusk.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of the funeral arrangements
