Mrs. Gibbs Dies In Newcastle March 27
Mrs. Katie Gibbs, 83, died March 27 at the home of her son, Clyde Gibbs in Newcastle.
Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon at the McColley Chapel in Newcastle with the Rev. Victor Crawford of the First Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers were Glenn Hanson, Leroy Black, Russell Christensen, Paul Gaskill, James Zerbst and Orin Carr. Music was furnished by Mrs. David Crum, soloist, and Mrs. George Olmsted, organist. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery.
Katie Walgreen was born February 20, 1877, in Bay City, Mich. As a small girl she came to western Nebraska with her parents in a covered wagon, spending her childhood on a farm near the present town of Hay Springs. She married Alfred John Gibbs September 20, 1899 and they were the parents of eight children.
In 1919 the family moved to Wyoming and homesteaded on the Cheyenne River, living there until 1938 when Mrs. Gibbs' health required them to move to Newcastle.
After her husband's death in 1953, Mrs. Gibbs lived with her son, Clyde.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Fotheringham of Evanston; five sons, Lawrence and Joe of Cheyenne River, Irwin of Nisland, S. Dak., John Alfred of Wheatland, and Clyde of Newcastle; three brothers, six sisters, 19 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
