Concluding Rites for the Late Mrs. Ina E. Gentry, Former Lance Creek Postmistress, Held Sunday Afternoon

Concluding services were conducted for the late Mrs. Ina E. Gentry, well known retired postmistress of Lance Creek, Wyo., at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, January 23rd, from the chapel of the Peet Mortuary, with Rev. Jacob Nein pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating.

During the rites Mrs. Emerson Bonner sang two selections, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Abide With Me," with Rex Yocum at the chapel organ.

Interment was made beside the remains of her late husband, William G. Gentry, in the family plot in the cemetery at Manville, Wyo. Bearing the remains to their final resting place were Hans Gautchi, Lee Stoddard, Del Shoopman, Leonard Ong, Henry Stiles and Vern Lamb.

Ina Estelle Miller was born in Pender, Nebraska, January 18, 1886. She passed away at Emanuel hospital in Portland, Oregon, January 20th, 1955, having reached the age of 69 years and two days.

After her mother's death when Ina was only seven years old, she lived with her aunt, Mrs. Ella Miller. When she was 16 years old, her father also passed away. Ina taught school for five years near Whiting, Iowa. It was there she met and married William G. Gentry, and at Whiting, Iowa they made their first home.

To this union were born eight children: Gould, Catherine, Ross, Elizabeth, a still born son, Isobel, Warren and Margaret (better known as Peggy).

In 1912, this couple with the older children, moved to a farm near Manville, and most of the remainder of her life was spent in this community.

Mrs. Gentry was postmistress at Lance Creek from 1934 to 1950, when ill health forced her to resign. Since then she had divided her time between her home in Manville and Peggy's home in Portland.

Preceding her in death were her daughter, Elizabeth Davis, who passed away in March, 1935 and her husband Will Gentry, who passed away January 3, 1936. She leaves to mourn on sister, Ethel Woodrich of Whiting, Iowa; six children, Gould in a Veterans hospital in Sturgis, South Dakota, Catherine Thomson, of Douglas, Ross Gentry of Rawlins, Wyo., Isobel Slaughterbreck of Byron, Wyo., Warren Gentry of Phoenix, Arizona, and Peggy Varney of Portland, Oregon, nine grandchildren, including William Davis, who made his home with his grandmother after his mother's death, two great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Former Postmistress Dies in Ore. Jan. 20

Friends of Mrs. Ina Gentry were saddened by her death at Portland, Ore. Jan. 20. The Gentry family had lived near Manville and in the Lance Creek community for many years having homesteaded north of Lance Creek. After the death of Mr. Gentry, Mrs. Gentry was postmistress of the Lance Creek post office from 1934 to 1950 when because of ill health she resigned and went to live with her daughter Pegg Varney. It was there she died Jan. 20. Mrs. Gentry was 69 years old at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Peet Mortuary and she was buried at the Manville Cemetery beside her husband Wm. Gentry and her daughter Elizabeth Davis. She is survived by three sons Ross of Rawlins, Wyo., Warren of Phoenix, Ariz. and Gould of Sturgis, So. Dak. and three daughters, Mrs. Catherine Thompson of Douglas, Mrs. Peggy Varney of Portland, Ore. and Mrs. Isabel Slaughterbeck of Byron, Wyo. and Billie Davis, a grandson who lived with Mrs. Gentry from the time he was quite small. All the children were here for the funeral except Gould who is in the veterans hospital at Sturgis, So. Dak. Mrs. Gentry belonged to the Black Gold Rebekah Lodge No. 22 of Lance Creek. she was a member of the Lance Creek Community Church and the Extension club and was a constant worker for the good of her community. She was also a past matron of Mariposa Chapter No. 35 of Manville.

Mrs. Ina Gentry Dies in Portland, Oregon Jan. 20

Mrs. Ina Gentry, 69, a long time resident of Niobrara County and former postmistress of Lance Creek, died in the Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore., January 20.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the Peet Chapel with Rev. Jacob Nein officiating. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Emerson Bonner sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Rex Yocum, organist.

Mariposa Chapter, O. E. S., held a special ceremony during the services.

Pallbearers were: Hans Gautschi, Lee Stoddard, Del Shoopman, Leonard Ong, Henry Stiles and Vernal Lamb. Interment was in the Manville cemetery with the Peet Mortuary in charge.

One daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth David died March 1935 and Mr. Gentry died January 4, 1936. She is survived by six children: Gould Gentry who is in the Veterans' Hospital at Sturgis, S. D.; Mrs. Catherine Thomson of Douglas; Ross Gentry of Rawlins; Mrs. Isobel Slaughterbeck of Byron, Wyoming; Warren Gentry of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Peggy Varney of Portland.

Mrs. Ethel Woodrich of Whiting, a sister; nine grandchildren including William Davis who made his home with Mrs. Gentry and two great grandchildren also survive.
