Kirtley Rancher Is Called By Death At Hospital Sunday

George Washington Grimes, who was brought to the Lusk hospital several days ago, passed away at 4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, June 14th, at the age of 55 years, 3 months and 19 days. He had been failing in health for some time, caused by a chronic heart affliction, but it was not until recently that his condition became alarming.

Mr. Grimes had lived on a homestead in the Kirtley vicinity since 1902, and in that neighborhood he became one of the builders of the present Kirtley community. He had been a member of the school board for the past six years, and only recently resigned because of his poor health. He was known to be thorough in everything he undertook to do, and was considered a reliable citizen and a good neighbor. He had a large host of friends outside his immediate home neighborhood, who will feel the loss in his passing.

Mr. Grimes was a native of Pennsylvania, having been born near Philadelphia. In March, 1879 he moved with his parents to Columbus, Nebr., where they located and lived for a number of years. They moved westward into Wyoming in March, 1889, and homesteaded on a place about ten miles east of Lusk. In 1902, following the death of his father, he took up a homestead in the Kirtley vicinity, and lived there until the time he was brot to the hospital here. He is a son of Mrs. A. A. Thon of this city.

Funeral services under the direction of the Peet mortuary were held at 4 o'clock Monday evening, June 15, from the Peet funeral parlors, Rev. Edwin F. Irwin, pastor of the Congregational church of this city officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk cemetery.

Although a private funeral had been planned, many of the decedent's close friends and neighbors attended the services to pay their last respects to him they had known and so highly regarded for years. Those acting as pallbearers were Roy ZumBrunnen, Jurd Lorenzen, George Saffell, Henry Wanders, Grover Beard and Charley Beard.

Besides his mother, Mr. Grimes is survived by one brother, C. A. Grimes of Kirtley, and one sister, Mrs. James Elliott of Goldendale, Wash. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
