Orville J. Gartrell
Orville J. Gartrell, former Lusk resident, died Feb. 24 in Chicago from complications of flu and pneumonia. Funeral services were held Feb. 27.
Gartrell was a native of Wyoming. He graduated as valedictorian in 1927 from Lusk High School. While in high school, he started working as a waterboy for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. After graduation, he continued to work for the railroad in Chadron and Fremont, Neb., before going to Chicago. He continued working for the railroad until his retirement as director of labor relations.
He served in the armed forces in World War II. Survivors are his wife, Ann, of Chicago; daughter, Janet Bucholz, Seattle, Wash.; sons John and Gary in Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister. Burial was in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Ill.
