Funeral services for Vernon Dunn of Harrison, Nebr., will be held Friday, November 6 at 10 a.m. at Church of the Nativity in Harrison with Father Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Harrison. Wake service will be held Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at the church.
Dunn died Sunday, Nov. 1 at Chadron Community Hospital; he was 95. A memorial has been established for Harrison Rescue Unit or the Church of the Nativity. Donations may be sent to Security Bank in Harrison.
He was affiliated with the Church of the Nativity, was in the registered Hereford business for almost fifty years, was a District 46 school board member, was on the Sioux County ASCS Board for 21 years; director of the Federal Land Bank for 8 years; Sioux County Weed Control Board; Area III Chairman of the Nebraska Stock Growers Assn.
He is survived by sons Dick Dunn of Okemos, MI; Jim and Harold of rural Sioux County, Nebr.; a daughter Grace Wilwand of rural Sioux County, Nebr.; nine grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dunn was born April 5, 1903 in Sioux County, NE to Richard and Eva (Sherrill) Dunn on their homestead. He graduated from Sioux County High School in 1923. He married Thelma Ummel on November 23, 1929. To this union four children were born: Dick, Grace, Harold and Jim. Thelma died on August 25, 1996. Vernon lived and ranched on the land of his birth for his entire 95 years.
