Everett Clinton DeGroot

Memorial service was conducted at Peet Mortuary Chapel Saturday for Everett DeGroot who died July 7 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Everett Clinton DeGroot, eldest son of Carl Everett and Maude Alice Maxon DeGroot was born June 11, 1911, at Lost Cabin, Wyo. As a youth, he moved with his family from Shoshoni to Lusk in 1925 where he attended the public schools and was graduated from the Lusk High School with the class of 1932. For a number of years he was employed by the American Museum of Natural History in the fossil fields of Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Texas. He was then transferred to New York City where he worked in the museum for several years.

Returning to Lusk, he was employed at the Wasson Chevrolet Company and Midwest Hardware Company. For 20 years he was a salesman for the Wyeth Hardware Company of St. Joseph, MO., during that time making his home in Riverton. He retired in 1975 and returned to Lusk where he has since made his home.

On October 18, 1958, he married Louella M. Gilmore in Lusk. They were the parents of a daughter Crystal Lea.

The Rev. Frank Blush officiated at the memorial service. Providing music were Edna DeCastro, organist and Mark Lohr who sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "How Great Thou Art."

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Johnnie Thon, Howard Weymouth, Robert Templeton, George Dixon, James Shillenn and John Jassman.

Memorials have been established to the Senior Center in Lusk.

Mr. DeGroot was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Kelly Gaston; three grandchildren, Amber, Jennifer and Brian, all of Rawlins; two sisters, Ada Vogel of Lusk and Phyllis Manning of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Val R. DeGroot of Hot Springs and John A. DeGroot of Denver.
