Marguerite Irene Davies

Marguerite Irene Davies, 80, died February 17 at Laramie Care Center in Laramie, Wyoming. She was born November 19, 1923 at Kirtley, Wyoming to Samuel E. and Clara Larson Thomas.

Marge lived on the family homestead at the bottom of the S Bar Hill northeast of Lusk, attending grade school at the Pine Knot School and graduating from high school in Harrison, Nebraska.

She met her husband, the late Marvin "Jake" Davies while attending school in Colorado. After their marriage in 1945, they lived several places before returning to make their home in Lusk where the couple raised three children, Bobby Davies of Laramie, Doyle Davies of Lusk and Susanne Owsley of Virginia.

Marge was an avid gardener, worked at the law office of Judson Watson, Spacht Insurance Agency, did the books for the family business, served as a cub scout leader, enjoyed sewing and carpentry, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, PEO, the Congregational United Church of Christ and love to read.

Following the death of her husband in 1977, Marge started a new career with the 1st Wyoming Bank of Lusk. She also became active in several community organizations including AARP, the Lusk Library Board, the planning and building of the Niobrara Senior Center as well as serving as a deaconess and on the board for the Congregational United Church of Christ, and the Planning and Zoning Commission for the Town of Lusk.

In her recent years, due to declining health, she moved from her home to the Cozy Corner, an assisted living facility in Lusk. While still able, she helped with their gardens and enjoyed being with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Marvin J. Davies, her parents, her oldest brother, Samuel M. Thomas, and an infant granddaughter.

Her brother Larry Thomas of North Carolina, her three children, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive her.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in March. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lusk Library Board or to the Niobrara Senior Center would be appreciated.
