Beryl Dickinson
Funeral services were held April 13, 1992, in Cambridge, Neb., for former Lance Creek Postmistress Beryl Dickinson, 81. Later graveside services were held in Cheyenne, Wyo. She died April 10, 1992, at Holdrege, Neb., hospital.
She was born in Manville on April 11, 1910 to Ira and Ione Remster Wilson. The family lived in Manville for several years, coming to Lance Creek in 1919. She received her elementary education in Manville and Lance Creek and three years of high school at Manville. She graduated from Wellington (Colo.) High School in 1927. After graduating, she was employed by the Veterans Administration in Cheyenne, and Minot and Fargo, N.D., for 11 years.
She married "Dick" Dickinson and they were the parents of a son, Ralph. The couple later divorced.
She began as a postal clerk in Lance Creek Jan. 25, 1949, under Ina Gentry and served in that position for seven months. When Gentry retired after 15 years of service, Dickinson became acting postmistress on Jan. 1, 1950. The post office was moved from the Gentry home to the old dime store building on the east side of the highway in the Gateway and Dickinson and her son lived in the back for 10 years. She retired May 28, 1971.
She is survived by her son Ralph, of Eagan, Minn. and two grandchildren; Mathew and Staci; two sisters, Verda Grace and Wilma Merna, both of Cheyenne; sister-in-law, Esther Wilson Dillon of Nebraska and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fred, Harley and David Wilson, a sister, Bertha Merna and a brother and sister (twins) who died at birth.
