Earl Criss, Niobrara Resident for 48 Years, Dies of Cancer Tuesday

Earl M. Criss, 78, a resident of Niobrara County since 1917, died in St. Mary's Hospital in Scottsbluff of cancer early Tuesday morning.

Mr. Criss had been employed by the Chicago & North Western Railroad for 60 years last July. Forty-eight of those years were spent in Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs. Criss came to Van Tassell in 1917 where he worked as a telegrapher. In 1925 Crisses came to Lusk and have been here ever since.

Funeral services will be held from the Peet Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Friday with the Rev. James Davis officiating. Masonic services will also be held in the Chapel with cremation in Denver.

Mr. Criss had only been ill with cancer for the past few months.

Many Lusk business will be closed during the services.

Mr. Criss was a very active member of Harmony Masonic Lodge at Lusk and was a past master. He also held various offices in the Brotherhood of Railway Telegraphers.

In his younger years Mr. Criss was a very active promoter of youth program having worked with the Boys Scouts and coached a boy's baseball team.

Memorial Funds

The family is requesting that any memorial contributions be given either to the Cancer Fund or the Cal Farley Boys Ranch at Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Criss long felt very strongly about the work that was done at the Boys Ranch and it was his favorite charity.

Mr. Criss was born in Prague, Neb., Jan. 8, 1887. He and Matilda Ritts were married November 18, 1909.

Besides his widow Mr. Criss is survived by one Son, Grady of Lusk; a daughter, Mrs. Winfred Hungate of Pampa, Texas. One son, Jack, died in 1950.

Criss Funeral Held Friday
Funeral services for Earl M. Criss, 78, were held from the Pete Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Friday with the Rev. James Davis officiating. Masonic services were held with C. E. Marvin acting in the capacity of Worshipful Master. Cremation was in Denver.

Mr. Chris was born in Prague, Nebr. Jan. 8, 1887 and died in St. Mary's Hospital in Scottsbluff of cancer March 2. He and Matilda Ritts were married November 18, 1909. Mr. Criss was a resident of Niobrara County since 1917.

Besides his widow, Mr. Criss is survived by one son, Grady of Lusk; a daughter, Mrs. Winfred Crinklaw of Pampa, Tex. One son, Jack, died in 1950. The Herald erred last week in the improper reporting of Mrs. Crinklaw as a survivor. She was in Lusk to attend the services.
