Mary Jo Vineyard Lund, January 18, 1937-September 21, 2024, age 87, passed away after a lengthy stay at the Niobrara County Nursing Home Extended Care Facility. Mary Jo was born in Wichita, Kansas, one of five children to Edward and Iona Vineyard. Edward moved his family to the Chugwater, Wyoming area where Mary Jo spent her youth and attended school.
Mary Jo married Charles Sommers in June of 1957. They made their home in Sheridan, Wyoming where together they had three sons, Ronald, Charles, and Roger.
They later divorced and Mary Jo relocated to Lusk, Wyoming with the boys where she met and married Larry Lund in August of 1967. They made their home on the Lund Ranch east of Lusk, Wyoming. Larry adopted the boys with the exception of Charles who chose to keep his original last name. They soon completed their family with the adoption of Larree Ann in February of 1969. They continued to live on the ranch until 1982.
After moving from the ranch, they made their home in Morrill, Nebraska, while Larry worked for Sand Hills Beef. After a short time, they moved to Saratoga, Wyoming where they worked at the TA Ranch where Mary Jo helped in the cookhouse. Mary Jo was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls and hot rolls. She also worked in housekeeping at the Old Baldy Golf Course where she was able see many celebrities coming and going from the clubhouse. They also made a home in Torrington, Wyoming and California. They finally settled in Rawlins, Wyoming where Larry secured a job with the State of Wyoming working at the Highway Department while Mary Jo spent her days working at the Flying J Travel Center. (She was excited to tell the family when Sam Elliott the movie star came in).
Mary Jo loved to fish. She traveled with her fishing pole and tackle in the trunk so she would never miss an opportunity to throw in a line if it presented itself. Mary Jo will also be remembered for gathering the family together where she would enjoy playing games and especially cards. There was always a lot of laughter at the table when Mary Jo was playing.
After Larry’s passing, Mary Jo moved back to Lusk to be closer to family and friends. When her health declined, she moved into the Niobrara County Nursing Home Extended Care Facility spending several years there.
