In Loving Memory of (Butch)Herbert Dean Hogan

Butch (Herbert Dean Hogan, 78 years of age, of Lusk, WY, entered his eternal home on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Meadow Wind Assisted Living in Casper, WY. Butch was born on May 3, 1945, in Cheyenne Wells, CO, the fourth of five children born to Earl and Nellie (Collins) Hogan of Kit Carson, CO. He was joined at home by three older sisters, Edna Jane, Ruth Ann, and Mary Catherine. Five years later, his little brother Donald Raymond arrived to complete the Hogan family. In 1966 for Christmas, Butch received his beloved black border collie Tip from his dad Earl as a gift. From such a young age, Butch had vivid memories of his dog protecting him from the many spankings that he deserved. It was said that the dog had to be left outside, and the ornery child was brought into the house to receive his beatings. Tip and Butch were inseparable for many years to come. In 1955 at the very young age of 12, Butch was responsible for driving with a custom harvest crew for Manual Randolph back and forth to Texas. On the way down to Texas, the highway patrol stopped him in one of the states. He made him get out of the driver's seat and immediately resumed driving as soon as he hit the Texas state line. Butch was very close with his dad Earl, and both loved the eastern Colorado history. Butch and his dad would spend time arrowhead hunting, farming, and ranching on the eastern Colorado plains. In 1961 Butch was a sophomore in High school, and he and a buddy dressed up as women for the Halloween party and won the prize for the Women; this did not make him happy to win the prize for the women's category. Butch attended Kit Carson Elementary and graduated from Kit Carson High School in 1963.

Butch joined the Navy in 1964. He trained as an Engineman and served two tours in Vietnam on PBR boats and minesweepers. Butch received the National Defense Service Medal: Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, and Good Conduct Medal. On New Year's Eve, 1966, he met Karen Kay Huffman at a dance in Hugo, CO. Butch and Karen were married in Villa Park, IL November 10, 1967. Butch and Karen were blessed with two daughters: Kimberlie Kay (Hogan) Bruegger on November 25, 1968, and Karman Leigh (Hogan) Krein on November 13, 1973. In the summer of 1979, they lost twin daughters. Butch was honorably discharged from the Navy in June of 1972. After Butch left the Navy, the couple made their home in Limon, CO., where Butch started and earned his journeyman lineman career for Mountain View Electric Association. In 1988 Butch and their family moved to Calhan, CO, for a promotion with Mountain View Electric. In the winter of 1990, Butch took a job as a city line superintendent with the town of Lusk. Butch ended his lineman career, working for Process Power in Glenrock, WY March of 2020 due to Covid shutting contracts down. Butch and Karen lived out the remainder of their years enjoying Lusk and the 6 grandsons' that lived and went to school there.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Nellie Hogan, one sister Ruth Ann Tinkle, brother-in-law Herb Tinkle, Uncle Ed Hogan, and one grandson Karson Michael Yorges.

Butch is survived by his wife, Karen Kay Hogan, two daughters Kimberlie Kay Bruegger and her husband, Shawn of Keeline WY. Karman Leigh Krein of Sheridan, WY.
