Mrs. Margaretta Walker Vaughn Dies at Age of 84

Mrs. Margaretta Walker Vaughn, 84 years old, died at her home in Goshen County, 27 miles southeast of Lusk, last Saturday, January 7th, of a severe attack to influenza. Mrs. Vaughn had been ill for about a week preceding her death.

She had made her hone at her homestead with her son, William, and daughter, Kathryn.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, at the Congregational Church of Van Tassell. Rev. Cowman officiated at this service and several beautiful hymns were sung by Mrs. H.E. Zerbe, Mrs. Cowman, and Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Reed. Mrs. McHale accompanied at the piano. Interment was made in the Van Tassell Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction  of the Peet Mortuary of Lusk.

OBITUARY

Margaretta Catharine Walker was born September 26, 1848, in Milton, Indiana. The first eight years of her life were spent at the home of her parents in Indiana.

When she was eight she moved with her family to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. On June 6, 1872, she became the wife of Jesse V. Vaughn, and to this union were born six children, all of whom are living excepting John Francis, the eldest, who died at the age of twenty. 

Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn and family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where they lived until 1912. In this year Mrs. Vaughn and her son, William, came to Van Tassell, where she filed and proved up on a homestead. She has lived in the Van Tassell vicinity since that time.

Mrs. Vaughn has been affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church for the past seventy years.

She leaves to mourn her death three sons--C, Merrick Vaughn of Des Moines, Iowa; Walker E. Vaughn of Campbell, Calif., and William G. Vaughn of Van Tassell, and two daughter, Mrs. Delta Smith of Mapleton, Iowa, and Miss Kathryn Vaughn of Van Tassell. There are also four granddaughter, two grandsons, and one great-grandson, besides nieces and nephews, who mourn  her passing.
