Lawrence Doman Dies of Injuries Sustained in Fall
Lawrence W. (Curley) Doman, 48, a former resident of Lusk, died in Washington, D. C., Thursday, March 14, as a result of injuries received in an accidental fall a week earlier.
Mr. Doman fell from a six foot ladder onto a pile of pipe at Andrews Air Force where he was employed as an electrician.
Funeral services for Mr. Doman were first held in Washington, D. C. Saturday. Services were conducted from St. George's Episcopal Church in Lusk Tuesday, March 19, with the Rev. Dean Addington officiating.
Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied a quartet from the church choir: Mrs. Bob Bramlet, Mrs. Walter Fernau, Harry Lyon and Dr. Richard Collins, who sang "Holy, Holy, Holy", "Now the Day is Over", and the "Nunc Dimittis."
Burial was in the Lusk cemetery and graveside services were conducted by harmony Masonic Lodge and by the Weiten-Dupes American Legion Post. Pallbearers were James Shillenn, Max Bird, Elvin Haworth, Earl McKinnis, Walter Fernau and Rex Shoults. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Fernau Sr., Oscar Bostrom, Dave Wilson, Wilford Wasserburger, Jack Melugin and Jack Magoon.
Lawrence William Doman was born in Lusk, Nov. 2, 1919, to William and Cora Snyder Doman. He attended grade school in Anselmo, Nebr., and attended high school in Lusk graduating in 1938.
He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps from January 1942 to December 1945. On April 28, 1943, he was married to Elaine Sylvester of Lusk in Myrtle Beach, S. C. One son, Lawrence George, was born in 1946.
After World War II the Doman family returned to Lusk and Mr. Doman opened the D&M Electric shop in partnership with Earl McKinnis. McKinnis later sold his share in the partnership to Mr. Doman who continued to operate the business until November 1960, when he moved to Washington D. C., and was assigned to Andrews AFB as an electrician under civil service.
He was a member of Seat Pleasant Masonic Lodge 218 in Washington D.C., and affiliated with St. Timothy's Episcopal Church of the city.
During his residence in Lusk he was a communicant member of St. George's Episcopal Church, sang in the choir, and served for several years as a lay reader. He was a member of the Weiten-Dupes American Legion Post and a member of the BPO Elks 1797, progressing through the officer chairs to Exalted Ruler in 1960.
Mr. Doman was an active member of the Volunteer Fire Department of Lusk from the time he was in high school until he left Lusk in 1960. He served as fire marshall for several years.
Survivors include his wife Elaine, of Suitland, Md.; one son Larry, who is attached to the 113th Tactical Fighter Squadron on active duty at Andrews AFB; one sister, Mrs. Lila Ritchie of Cheyenne. Both parents, two brothers, and one sister died previously.
Out-of-town family and friends attending the services in Lusk included: Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Daniels, West Point, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sylvester, Moorcroft, Nebr.; Mrs. Lila Ritchie, Cheyenne; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Curran, Cheyenne; Larry Curran, Washington, D. C.; Boyd Anderson, Washing, D. C.; Harold Sherman, Valentine, Nebr.; and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fancher of Seattle, Wash.
