Joan was born in Scottsbluff Neb., to Olive Reed and John DesEnfants on March 3, 1928. She was the oldest of four children. She grew up in Torrington and graduated Torrington High School in 1947.
Joan found her true love in a tender man named Eugene Harris. They married Aug. 29,1947. They soon purchased a farm in Lost Springs and raised their two sons Dana and Dean there. Her two grandchildren spent so much of their lives there as well. They loved that farm and the community around it.
Joan and Gene enjoyed opening their home and having company. If it was breakfast or an evening fellowship of dessert, the coffee pot was always on. And if they heard of a need in the community, you could count on the Harris's to be there.
Joan and Gene stayed on the farm in Lost Springs for 47 years before retiring to Torrington. Joan loved her family dearly, and she enjoyed gardening, bookkeeping, cooking, canning, raising chickens, sewing, archery, hunting, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She had a sense of humor that sometimes kept you guessing, and she loved that. Just ask her for one of her recipes, oftentimes it would never turn out like hers. But most often she would not mince words! She always had a bit of wisdom to share and would fiercely fight to protect what she believed in.
Joan enjoyed an active social life. She served in the Keeline 5280 Extension Club, state and local Wyoming Republican Women's Association, 4H leader, and was a Luzier consultant for 48 years.
Survivors include Dana's wife Sandi of Spearfish, S.D.; granddaughter Deanna (Ken) of Sundance; grandson Trevor (Melissa) of Beaver Dam, Wisc. ; grandson Riley Osborne (Shannon) of Billings, Mont.; her brother Jack DesEnfants of Scottsbluff, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, son Dana, sisters, Irene and Jeannine and their parents.
