Charles "Ed" Edward Colligan
Death Claims C. E. Colligan Tuesday Morning; Had Been Ill Almost Two Years; Services in St. Leo's Church
Last rites were conducted at ten o'clock this (Thursday) morning for the late Charles Edward Colligan, from St. Leo's Catholic Church with Rev. M. J. McBrien officiating. Rosary services were held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday January 12th, at the chapel of the Peet Funeral home.
Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery where military rites were held by Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4, American Legion with Chuck Vaughan directing the rites. Otto Klemke, Sr., and James McCune served as flagbearers and members of the local National Guard Unit made up the firing squad. The American flag was folded and presented to Mrs. Colligan by Chuck Vaughan and Raleigh Gagstetter.
Bearing the remains to their final resting place were Wayne Heckert of Douglas, Wyo., Lyle Miles, Kenneth Erlewine, Archie Huey, Clifford Cox, and Lloyd Coleman, all members of the State Highway Department crew with whom the deceased had worked for many years.
Charles Edward Colligan, a son of Michael and Mary Colligan was born February 9th, 1895 in Marshall County, Illinois and departed from this life on Tuesday, January 11th, 1955, at the Spencer hospital, at the age of 59 years 11 months and two days.
When he was a small child, the family moved to Indianola, Nebr., where he grew to young manhood. During World War I, he saw active military service overseas. Upon his discharge from service he came to Upton, Wyo., where he began his employment with the State Highway Department that lasted for 32 years.
While employed at Upton, Wyo., he returned to Indianola, Nebr. where he married Miss Cora McKiney, on October 30th, 1921. The couple returned to Upton to make their home, and shortly thereafter, moved to Lusk, where they have since resided. They became the parents of one daughter, Margaret.
Mr. Colligan was forced to retire from the State Highway Department on July 1st, 1953, because of poor health, and since his retirement has been under medical care.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Cora, of this city, one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Raynes and two grandchildren, Carolyn and Gary Raynes of Rapid City, South Dakota; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Finch and Miss Catherine Colligan, both of Indianola, Nebr., and a large number of nephews, nieces, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred, a half sister, Mary, and four half brothers, John, James, William and Frank.
Out-of-town relatives attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Al Raynes, Carolyn and Gary of Rapid City, So. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Finch and Bernie, Mrs. Catherine Schuyler, and Miss Mamie Madden all of Indianola, Nebr.

Ed Colligan Dies Tuesday Following Long Illness
Charles Edward Colligan, 59, died Tuesday at the Spencer Hospital after a long illness.
Rosary services were being held Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the Peet Chapel.
The funeral services are being held at St. Leo's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Thursday with Rev. M. J. McBrien officiating.
Casket-bearers are: Wayne Heckert of Douglas, Lyle Miles, Kenneth Erlewine, Archie Huey, Clifford Cox and Lloyd Coleman, all fellow employees of the Wyoming State Highway Department.
Interment is in the Lusk Cemetery with full military honors by the Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4 of the American Legion. Charles C. Vaughn is in charge of the service; he and Raleigh Gagstetter will fold the flag and Vaughn will present it to Mrs. Colligan. Otto Klemke and James McCune are the color bearers. The color guards and the firing squad are from the National Guard and the bugler from NCHS.
Charles Edward Colligan was born February 9, 1895, the son of Michael and Mary Colligan, in Marshall County, Ill. The family moved to Indianola, Neb., where he grew to young manhood.
In World War I he served overseas.
He was married to Miss Cora McKiney October 30, 1921 of Indianola. The couple had one daughter, Margaret.
After 32 years service with the Wyoming State Highway department he retired July 1, 1953 because of ill health.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora Colligan; his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Raynes; two grandchildren, Catherine Colligan and Mrs. Harry Finch of Indianola, and several nieces and nephews.
