Baby Bright
Grim Reaper Wins When Parents Race to Doctor With Child
Three-Months-Old Son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bright of Shawnee Expires During Trip
Death won and unequal contest early Tuesday morning when Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bright of Shawnee started to Lusk with their little 3-months-old boy in their arms, in an effort to reach medical aid before the child expired.
But death won.
The child was dead when the residence of Dr. Walter E. Reckling was reached at about 6:00 o'clock Tuesday morning.
The parents were awakened early by the crying of the little boy, and soon discovered that his condition was serious.
Bundling the little boy into their car, they started the race for Lusk, to secure medical aid. When they arrived at the home of Dr. Reckling about 6:00 o'clock in the morning the doctor made an examination, and said the child had probably expired a short time after the parents started from their home for Lusk.
The child had been in good health previous to the attack, and it is believed that he suffered a sudden heart attack.
Without removing the baby from the car, the parents started the return trip, taking the body to Douglas where it was turned over to the Hoffman Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held and interment made in Douglas.
Editor's note: Although the name of the baby was not included in the above, it is believed that his name was Joe Dean Bright, born March 4, 1937.
