Funeral services for longtime resident Walther Wilfried Doctor, were held Dec. 6, 2003, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lusk with Reverend Darren Pflughoeft officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.
Walther Doctor died Dec. 2, 2003, at his home in Lusk.
Walt was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Thawville, Ill., the son of Reverend Frederick C. and Emma (Ropa) Doctor. He was the youngest of six children. On May 23, 1948, he married Gladys Marie Foerg in Lusk. Together they raised three children.
Walt served his country in the Navy during WWII and later the Korean War. He was the longtime owner of Peet Mortuary in Lusk, where he also served as coroner and ran the ambulance service. He was active in his community, serving on the Town Council, Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Niobrara Country Club Board. He also served as an officer of the Wyoming Funeral Directors Association.
Walt was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, serving as an elder and many other boards and offices.
He loved his garden and golfing, but mostly loved spending time with his family.
Walt was baptized in Christ on March 8, 1925, at Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Thawville, Ill. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Neb., by his father, on May 15, 1938, and was a lifelong member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.
Walt's faith was the center of his life. In life and in death, he was a steadfast witness for that faith. He will be missed by his family and friends who mourn his death but take comfort in their faith and fond memories of his life.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Paul, and a sister Ruth.
He is survived by his wife of Lusk; a son, Robert A. Doctor of Casper, Wyo.; two daughters, Kathy E. Coon and Debra Murray, both of Lusk; two brothers, Luther of Coeur d'Alene Idaho, and Frederick of Cocoa, Fla.; one sister, Lola Fike of Davenport, Iowa; two sons-in-law, Richard Murray and Clayton Coon, both of Lusk; one daughter-in-law, Wendy Doctor of Casper; and six grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Doctor, Whittney and Michael Coon, and Brittany and Kristopher Murray.
Memorials have been established to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lusk, Niobrara Senior Center in Lusk, or the Niobrara County Medical Foundation.
Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
