Addison Ray Brown
Addison Ray Brown was born June 5, 1933 to Ray and Eunice Brown on the homestead in Goshen County hear the present Brown ranch. Ray was the fifth of seven children. The family moved to Torrington when he was eight years old. He was twelve when his mother taught school at Laramie Peak near Hubbards Cupboard. Ray never really left he mountain, returning often. He made many good friends on the mountain. In 1955 he served two years in the US Army, then returned to the mountain. There he met and married Kathleen Newel and had a son, Jody. Some years after the divorce, he married Shirley Eggleston Bromley. They lived in Ft. Laramie then moved to Lusk where Ray had an auto body repair shop and worked at the school, the Outpost, the Ranger, etc. Shirley died May 5, 2009. Ray suffered several debilitating illnesses but with the help of the people of Lusk and his nephew, Odell Haynes, maintained a residence at the Ranger until his death March 1, 2019.
Preceding Ray in death are his parents, his wife Shirley, a sister Joan Milnes of Guernsey and a brother Bud Brown of Lingle. Ray leaves behind his son Jody; stepdaughters Loretta Hildebrand of Douglas, Fritz Walsh of Guernsey and Mary (Margie) Moore of Ogden, UT. Also a brother, Jim Brown of Torrington, sisters Josephine Haynes and Audrey Brown of Guernsey and Karen Ross of Torrington, and many step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial for Ray will be held in Lusk after the snow melts. Ray is grievously missed.
