Margaret Callander
Margaret Callander Dies in Penn.
Word of the death of Mrs. Margaret Callander, former Lusk resident, has been received at the Herald office ina letter from T. S. Grand of Casper, her brother -in-law.
Mrs. Callander passed away May 12 at New Castle, Pa., near the place where she was born as Margaret Wright in 1861, being 87 years of age at the time of her death.
Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Callander taught school in Pennsylvania and southeastern Wyoming; and at Lusk, Manville, Douglas and Basin.
After her marriage to H.N. Callander the couple lived in Lusk for many years where Mr, Callander was president of the Bank of Lusk.
After disposing of his banking interest here they moved to San Diego, Calif., where Mr. Callander died in 1930.
Mrs. Callander was the last member of a pioneer family who came from New England to western Pennsylvania when covered wagons and horses or yokes of oxen were the common means of travel.
Mrs. Callander was a sister of the late Mrs. Theron. S. Grant and among the nephews and nieces who survive is Mrs. Hanna Wright Kretzer who about 1920 taught the Ball school west of Keeline and now lives on the home farm in Pennsylvania.
Also surviving is a step-daughter, Mrs. Jesse Callander Agnew, formerly of Lusk.
