Marlin Stewart Bird
Brother of Max Bird Killed Instantly Fri.
Marlin Bird, 59, Elk Point, S. D., and brother of Max T. Bird, was killed Friday, April 9, when a fire truck being used to wash streets backed over him.
Visiting in Elk Point were Max Bird and son Barton. They had lunch with Marlin Bird, and then had gone to the home of an aunt to visit, and were returning to the business district when they came upon the accident.
Mr. Bird was the superintendent of the Elk Point light plant, and he and several men were standing around the truck just prior to the accident, according to Deputy Sheriff Eugene Rasmussen, investigating officer. Death was instantaneous and attributed to a crushed chest.
Funeral service was held Monday. Survivors include his widow, Effie, of the family home; sons, Larry and Ken, attending Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Bird, three sisters and two brothers.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Bird and Barton left Lusk Thursday to spend Easter vacation with their respective families in Iowa and South Dakota.
