Dick Bard Dies At Story Home
Dick Bard of Story, Wyo., and brother of Mrs. Florence Godfrey of Lusk, died Friday while working in the shop portion of his home. Memorial services were held Tuesday in Sheridan.
Mr. Bard was, until his retirement, supervisor of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Fish Hatchery at Story. He also operated fishing camps high in the Big Horn Mountains and was a hunting outfitter and guide.
He was a World War I veteran and saw extensive action in France and was decorated. A cook, he was credited with saving troops from hunger when all supplies were gone he killed eels in a river with hand grenades and cooked them in French wine.
The cause of death is not known here, but at the time of his death Mr. Bard was likely working on his extensive collection of bird houses and "live" animal traps which he developed as a hobby following his retirement. His collection was recently featured in an article by the Sheridan Press.
His remains were cremated.
He is survived by his widow, Winifred.
