John Stephen Anderson
Private memorial service for early Niobrara resident John Stephen Anderson was held at Greenwood Mortuary in San Diego with internment at Greenwood Memorial Park. Anderson died unexpectedly Easter morning April 11 while recovering from a heart attack earlier in the month.
John Stephen Anderson was born December 5, 1906 near Hat Creek, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Anderson and grew up on the family Homestead on Old Woman Creek, He attended high school in Lusk and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
He and Dorothea May Kline, whom he met in Rockford, Ill., were married in June 1932. Some years later he did post graduate work at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.
He serviced as and officer, eventually attaining the rank of Major in the U.S. Army Corps during W.W. II. During the war he was an instructor of the then-new radar. After W.W. II he went to work as an electronics engineer at with the U.S. Naval Electronics Laboratory in San Diego.
Residing in San Diego since 1945, Anderson and his son Jerome, made many summer trips to Lusk to visit family and friends. He had hope to compile and publish a history of the Lusk area.
Anderson was active in the Masons, Scottish Rites and the Al Bahr Shrine Temple of San Diego.
He is survived by his wife Dorothea and son Jerome and his brother Gaylord Anderson of Lusk.
