John Borky Dies At Chappell

John Bernard Borky, 83, early resident of Sioux County, died at Chappell, Neb., of a heart attack February 28.

Mr. Borky was born January 27,1881 at St. Helena in Cedar County, Neb. As a small child he came to Sioux County where her grew up and attended school. Later he homesteaded in Sioux County and taught school.

He was married to Miss Bessie Stroud of Armington, Ill., a fellow teacher whom he met at an educators convention. They were the parents of one son and two daughters.

For many years he was Sioux County superintendent of schools, a job he combined with ranching. In 1953 he retired and he and Mrs. Borky established a new home in Chappell in 1954. She preceded him in death in 1963.

He is survived by one son, Lt. John C. Borky of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence From of Venago, and Mrs. Leslie Elliott of Clifton, Colo.; three grandsons and three granddaughters, and three sisters, Rose, Agnes and Cecelia who reside in Clarkston, Wash., Hill City, S. Dak., and Wahshington D.C.

Funeral services were held at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Chappell with the Rev. Father Maron officiating on March 2. Burial was in the Chappell Cemetery.
